One of the reasons I love what I do is because of the people I meet and work with. I am continually inspired by who they are, what they have overcome and achieved…in many cases defying the odds in big and bold ways.

I just finished recording an interview for my new podcast Notable Leaders Radio.

A client heard a retired Navy Commander (Amanda Hawkins) speak and immediately knew she had to introduce me. She reached out to me to make the introduction and said, “I heard this woman speak, her story is POWERFUL, in direct alignment with your message and all you stand for…you must meet!”

Who am I to argue with a client’s introduction? I did as I was told and connected with Amanda immediately. My client was oh so very right. What a woman, what a story, what a brilliant example of what is possible for you when you honor all that is important to you, give yourself permission to be unashamedly yourself and in her case, speak truth to power. For it is when she did this that her career took off.

Amanda is a retired Commander of the United States Navy, and founder and CEO of Ursus USA and Friendly Minds. She has received numerous personal and unit awards for her work, including the 2018 Captain Joy Bright Hancock Award for Inspirational Leaders. Before starting her businesses, Amanda served in various operational and staff roles in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer. Her final operational tour was in command of a maritime and patrol reconnaissance aircraft squadron operating the P-8A Poseidon in Europe engaging in sea control and power projection alongside our allies and partners.

That list of accomplishments is what came about for her when she recognized the importance of being true to who she is versus what she thought she was supposed to be and speaking up. Thus, to Be More You, Not Faux You!!

That is a bit of Amanda’s story, the big question is, what’s your story? Where might things change for you if you were to give yourself permission to be unashamedly yourself – or as Amanda would say to Be More You, Not Faux You?

This one principle is a game changer. Go for it, you deserve nothing less than to be the full expression of who you are, so you too have the ability to be both professionally successful AND personally fulfilled
