In this episode, I speak with two vibrant leaders of this generation who share the powerful impact they are creating in their respective careers. 

Marisol Garibay and Tomeika Bowden, speak to the barriers and norms that they have wilfully broken through in order to create opportunities for themselves and impact not only the lives in their world but also the world at large. 

They share philosophies on advancing careers, building successful teams, and creating sustainable change, by acknowledging/celebrating wins along the way, approaching each day with deep gratitude, all while remaining grounded. 

Tomeika Bowden  is the Chief External Affairs Officer for DC PCSB. She served in the United States Senate, U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and at the national YMCA. 
 
Marisol Garibay is the Managing Director of The Penta Group. She has served in senior government positions and has devised strategic communication plans for high-profile national issues. Through her efforts she has influenced policy to ensure it has a positive economic impact on Americans.

Tomeika  is the Chief External Affairs Officer for DC PCSB.

Ms. Bowden has worked on public policy issues both at the national and local levels.

She served in the United States Senate, U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, and at the national YMCA.

Ms. Bowden currently manages the DC Public Charter School Board's communications, digital, government relations, intergovernmental relations, and community engagement operation.

Ms. Bowden has a Bachelor of Arts in English from North Carolina Central University and a Master’s in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University.

M A R I S O L   G A R I B A Y

Marisol is the Managing Director, The Penta Group

She has served in senior government positions and has devised strategic communications plans for high-profile national issues. Through her communications plans, she has influenced policy to ensure it has a positive economic impact on Americans.

Most recently, she served as the Chief Communications Officer for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau where she built the communications shop from the ground up. She led the consumer efforts for the Bureau to help consumers understand their rights during the COVID-19 pandemic on mortgage forbearance and the moratorium on evictions. 

Previously, Marisol served as Senior Advisor and Communications Director at the Office of Management and Budget. While at OMB, Marisol led efforts to educate the public on OMB’s review of Treasury regulations to implement the tax reform bill. 

Marisol previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Treasury Department focusing on tax policy and domestic policy issues. She led the strategic communications efforts on the implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

Marisol started her career working for the House Financial Services Committee where she led the communications office during the 2008 financial crisis.
